5) Knott's Berry Farm
The story of Knott's Berry Farm is a story of the American dream since it required hard work and determination. Walter Knott cultivated boysenberries (a combination of loganberries, raspberries and blackberries) and he and his family would sell their various types of berries near a California roadway. Eventually Cordelia Knott (Walter's wife) began frying chicken and making boysenberry pies to sell to hungry passers-by. Soon their little “by-the-roadside” establishment became so popular that Walter decided to build a ghost town as a source of entertainment for those who were waiting for long periods of time for the popular Knott edibles. Eventually the entertainment expanded and became what it is today: fiery fast rollercoaters and other forms of diversion and entertainment. Along with Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm is a great place to spend a day or two when you are visiting the Los Angeles area. |
